Life Skills

Before each game, competing teams participate in an educational life skill lesson. Only players who have received this lesson are allowed to play and the competing teams take the class together. SALT Academy has a standardized Life Skills curriculum, improved and updated each season. Lessons especially seek to:

  • Reinforce elements of team play and maintaining a positive community; such as commitment, respect, honest, and fairness
  • Develop self-respect and critical thinking: including how to understand and avoid the impact of drug use, peer pressure, and other negative behavior
  • Improve physical health including how to avoid worms and the importance of nutrition and hydration

De-worming and health education

De-worming medicine is distributed during the season, in conjunction with education on hygiene, worms, nutrition and hydration. SALT is also currently exploring vaccination for all participants and improved healthcare options for girls’ participation in our advanced programs.
